お客様に喜ばれる花苗づくり
サトウ園芸は1988年の創業以来、人に喜ばれる花苗づくりの研究を地道にコツコツ続けてきました。なかでも良い苗づくりに欠かせない水やりには大変苦労し、納得いく管理技術を確立するまで、実に15年という時間がかかりました。
その時間の積み重ねと試行錯誤が、オリジナル品種のパンジー「ドラキュラ」や「ローブ・ドゥ・アントワネット」を生み出すことにつながったと感じています。
Since its founding in 1988, Sato Nursery has steadily and diligently researched how to cultivate flower seedlings that will delight people. Watering, which is essential for producing high-quality seedlings, was particularly challenging, and it took a full 15 years to establish satisfactory management techniques. We believe that this accumulated time and the process of trial and error led to the creation of our original pansy varieties, such as "Dracula" and "Robe de Antoinette."

健全な根を鉢内に十分張り巡らせるため、
生育に合わせ絶妙な加減で水の量を増やします。
この潅水技術を習得するのに15年かかりました。
Sato Gardening carefully manages water to cultivate healthy roots
To ensure that healthy roots spread throughout the pot, watering is reduced when the seedlings are small so that water only penetrates to the depth of the root ball, and the amount of water is increased as the plants grow. By the time the plants flower and are ready to be shipped, the root ball is evenly formed from the top to the bottom. Getting the watering right is difficult, and it took me 15 years to master this technique.

水の管理
花苗で大事なのが潅水管理、「水やり」です。花の状態を見ながら一鉢ずつ丁寧に水をあげていきます。１日１回の水やりですが、５万鉢とか６万鉢を一人でするので、６時間とか、夏場は８時間くらいかかります。風通しが悪いとカビが生えてしまうため、鉢の大きさによってスペースを広げていきます。
Watering management
Watering is important for flower seedlings. I carefully water each pot while observing the condition of the flowers. I water them once a day, but since I'm the one who handles 50,000 to 60,000 pots, it takes about six hours, or eight hours in the summer. Poor ventilation can lead to mold, so I increase the spacing depending on the size of the pots.

When developing new varieties, the most important thing is the opinions of flower lovers. Sato Nursery, with the cooperation of its partners, occasionally holds open house tours for gardening enthusiasts. By carefully selecting parent plants based on the valuable opinions received at these events, we are able to create even more attractive and memorable flowers.

Dedicated to growing seedlings
Our potting soil is an original, well-draining mixture that was developed through extensive research with experts in order to promote healthy root growth. We also outsource seedling cultivation to specialist companies, and by focusing our efforts on seedling production, we are able to consistently produce high-quality flower seedlings.

先祖代々の土地に、ハウス２棟を建てて花苗を生産しています。
現在は住宅地のため、環境に配慮して地域の皆さまにご理解いただける経営に努めています。
We built two greenhouses on ancestral land and produce flower seedlings there. As the area is now a residential area, we strive to operate in an environmentally friendly manner that is understood by local residents.

東京からも近く、自然が豊富な群馬県高崎市で苗づくりを行なっています。市街地ではありますが、日本の文化や四季を感じられる環境で栽培ができることはとてもありがたく思っています。
Nurturing environment
We grow our seedlings in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, which is close to Tokyo and rich in nature. Although it is in an urban area, we are very grateful to be able to cultivate in an environment where we can experience Japanese culture and the four seasons.
たっぷりの地下水
日々の潅水は、地下水をポンプで汲み上げて行います。良い苗をつくるために良い水をたくさん使いたいので、設備投資はかかりますが井戸を掘りました。それだけコストがかかっていることを知っていただければうれしいです。
Plenty of groundwater
Daily irrigation is done by pumping up groundwater. We want to use lots of good water to produce good seedlings, so we dug a well, even though it requires capital investment. We hope people will understand that it is costly.
風通しとハウス設計

温かいハウスで育った苗が急に外気に触れると、ストレスで傷んでしまいます。風に当て、外の環境に馴らすことを「ハードニング」といい、丈夫な苗を育てるのに欠かせない工程です。お客さまのところで丈夫に育つ「良い苗」づくりが生産者の技術だと考えます。作業効率がいいように、苗ベンチを腰の高さに調整し、楽に作業できるようにしています。
Ventilation and house design
When seedlings grown in a warm greenhouse are suddenly exposed to the outside air, they become damaged by the stress. Exposing them to the wind and acclimatizing them to the outside environment is called "hardening," and it is an essential process for growing strong seedlings. We believe that producing "good seedlings" that will grow strong at the customer's site is a matter of the grower's skill. To improve work efficiency, the seedling benches are adjusted to waist height, making it easy to work.
ハウス倒壊…奇跡的の苗

2014年２月、関東甲信越を襲った大雪で、ハウス１棟が倒壊してしまいました。損害は大きかったですが、奇跡的に苗は救出することができました。もし、あのとき、あきらめてしまっていたら…。「ドラキュラ」も「ローブ・ドゥ・アントワネット」も世に出ることはなかったでしょう。あきらめなくて本当に良かったと思います。
The greenhouse collapsed... but the seedlings survived miraculously
In February 2014, a heavy snowfall hit the Kanto-Koshinetsu region, causing one greenhouse to collapse. The damage was great, but miraculously, the seedlings were able to be rescued. If I had given up then... "Dracula" and "Robe d'Antoinette" would never have been released. I'm so glad that I didn't give up.
